Well, I survived yet another Christmas in retail! Even better, I am mobile again now that my transmission is fixed. Best of all, the weird “Service Engine Soon” light finally blinked off today of its own volition. Things are starting to look up! Kevin and I had a great (and oh-so-eventful) Christmas day here in Ft. Worth, and we are looking forward to seeing the Florida gang this Saturday (with the special bonus of Sonny and JoJo!). The laundry is done, the house is clean, the pet-sitters are scheduled, and the bags are packed. Now all we need to do is hop a flight, and we’ll be there before you know it! We’ll see everyone soon!
Well, it’s official. I am going to Hell. I fired someone today, and as everyone has felt the need to remind me, it’s only two weeks until Christmas. Never mind that it was a business decision (and a sound one at that), all I heard all day was what a horrible person I am. “Don’t you know what a bad job market it is?” ” Don’t you know Christmas is in 15 days?” Well, okay then. But dammit! My job is to counsel problems until we reach an impasse. So here it is, almost time for Santa, and one of mine is out of a job. I know it was for the best, but that knowledge offers little solace. If you’ll excuse me now, I have to go give blood and donate to Santa’s Helpers, and adopt a child from a third world country.
FIRST: Check out the family news page! Congratulations are in order, but to find out who and what, you have to check out the family page!
SECOND: TODAY IS THE ANNIVERSARY OF MY FIRST DATE WITH KEVIN! Seven years ago (almost to the minute), Kevin and I went out to paint the town, and we haven’t stopped since. I love you, baby, and thanks for the best seven years of my life.
I made the mistake of going to the mall last Friday. Wow. I don’t think the economists are actually going out themselves if they think that retail’s in a slump. Anyway, Kevin told me that I had to go shopping for everyone, so I did. I then signed his name to all our Christmas cards and sent those off. He sure has it easy….On the other hand, Santa IS watching, so I had better not complain too much. All the presents are wrapped and under the tree, now if Christmas would just hurry up and get here! We are REALLY looking forward to seeing everyone in Florida in 2 weeks.
Sonny-I especially can’t wait to see you!
So Kevin showed me the little game: you know, the one where you have to keep the ball in the air? He was so proud of his high score of-ahem-12 that I didn’t have the heart to tell him that MY high score was 32 (at least I didn’t have the heart right away; after about 5 seconds, I started dancing around and singing “I’m the winner”). Let’s see if any of you can beat that!
Seriously, Christmas shopping is under way, and I do love employee appreciation days at work. Needless to say, most of you will be getting books for Christmas! If there is anything special on your wish list, please let me know. If you tell Kevin, he’ll just forget, and besides, he has informed me that I am responsible for the gift buying this year (for which you can all be thankful).
HARRY POTTER IS MY HERO!!! When I grow up, I want to marry him. Oh, wait…I am grown up, and already married, so that could throw a kink in my plans. Seriously, the movie was wonderful! I can’t wait for the next one! Even Kevin loved it, which is most unlike him. We had a movie extravaganza kind of weekend: after Harry Potter, my mother and I went to see Monsters, Inc. (also very cute). Tonight, I’ve rented Christmas Vacation, since we have THREE radio stations already playing nothing but Christams music, I figured we may as well really get into the spirit of things. Besides, we need a little Christmas now more than ever.
It seems that not a day goes by without Kevin harping on me for being a “freak liberal”. I thought I should take this opportunity to set the record straight: while my conservative husband is out there screaming “Death to all turkeys”, I am concerned about women’s rights, the environment, education, and health care issues. It is my opinion that George W. Bush is doing a fantastic job (and let’s face it: NO ONE EVER thought I’d say that), but I have more important things to do with my time than argue the politics of poultry. If this makes me a liberal freak, then so be it. I love my husband, but the only place we can discuss politics is in the relative safety of our separate offices.
Not much news today… I am cleaning the house and going to the grocery store to buy Thanksgiving-y type stuff like a turkey and such. Since I’ve worked all nights this week, Kevin has been in charge of feeding the dogs, and last night they ate tuna fish and rice, so I think Dog Food is on my list as well. No wonder the pups were so happy to see me when I got home last night! Kevin is taking me to see Harry Potter tonight, so I’ll let everyone know how it is. I can’t wait!
Very soon, we will be gathering together to gorge on turkey and dressing! In the meantime, though, Kevin will be busy putting cool stuff on the web. Hopefully, I can add all sorts of Christmas lists for the rest of the family over the weekend. Dana had that idea, and I think it’s a great one!
After reading Kevin’s last posting, I can’t really tell if he’s glad I’m working nights this week or not. Due to the level of whining, I’m pretty sure he’s not…mostly because he has to fix himself dinner this week. Oh well. It’s good for him every once in a while to fend for himself!
Happy Birthday to Grandma and to Jen!
I know that Kevin is afraid that I’ll butcher him and skin him (yes, Kevin, I DO read your postings), but I am not a psycho hose beast. He is just jealous because I installed XP and managed to not only network my computer to his all by myself, but I also retained all of my original settings from Windows 98, right down to my wallpaper, while he struggled with trying to find out how to connect to the internet (hint:it’s the button that says “Do you want to connect to the Internet?”). Working in a bookstore really improves one’s reading abilities. And just because I voted for Clinton (TWICE) that doesn’t make me insane; it just means I’m open-minded. At least I can spell “potato” (AHEM…Anyone remember Dan Quayle?) and I’ve never done Cocaine. There are worse things in life that voting for a Democrat (like butchering your husband).
Hope all is well with everyone!
Hello again. Well, I’m gearing up for another Christmas in retail. If I didn’t LOVE my job then I might give it up for good, but the books keep calling to me. Speaking of books, I have updated my reading list. I’ve been reading some great stuff lately, so check them out!
Kevin and I are looking forward to spending at least part of the holidays in Florida. We bought our tickets last week, now it’s just a countdown till Christmas!
Also, please check out our new and expanded letters to Santa. If any of you elves out there have wish lists of your own, please let me know so I can get started on shopping. It will give me an excuse to go wild at the Mall!

Ok, so Kevin really HAS been after me to post something on our website. The problem is, before today, I didn’t know anything about this whole Front Page thing. But Kev assured me that it is really similar to Publisher (which I am better at than he is), so I finally tried it, and it worked! I really and truly did it all by myself, so please check out the reading list and the letter to Santa. I am so cool! Anything that has my name on it was built by ME ME ME!
Other than my newfound computer prowess, there is not much happening around here. I’m getting ready to embark on a 9 day stretch at work, so I’ll be a zombie by the week’s end. The truly happy news is that a new Central Market opened up, and I’m dragging Kevin today after the Bucs game. If you aren’t familiar with Central Market, it’s a specialty grocery store, with the world’s best produce, meats, seafood, and cheeses. If you like to cook, it’s paradise! The spices alone are worth fighting the crowds. I actually found a hot sauce that before now, I’ve only ever seen in the islands, and Kevin is thrilled to have it again!
Hello to Alain in Paris! Kevin and I hope all is well, and that you’re partying like the rock star you are!
Hello again. Well, If I’m writing, then Kevin must be on my case. He spent ALL day working on the wedding video, and it’s FINALLY done! He did a fantastic job, and he is diligently working to format it to VHS so that everyone can see it. I know that Brain and Courtney have already watched it, and I certainly hope that they liked what they saw. Nothing much is new on the homefront, just work and the like, and gearing up for Christmas in retail. I did read a great book this week, and if you like factual mysteries, you’ll love The Island of Lost Maps. Come on, if you can’t take the word of a Barnes & Noble Store Manager, whose word can you take?
